Copenhagen

Former Viking stronghold Copenhagen is one of Europe's oldest cities. Stroll substantial sections of the dynamic Danish capital along Europe's longest pedestrian route, The Ströget. Skyscrapers are outlawed, keeping the city's progressive modern architecture on the same sightlines as its smorgasbord of charming canals, colorful row houses and impressive museums. An eclectic array of sights beckons, from funky hippy kingdom Christiana to splendid palaces. For a true taste of Copenhagen, guzzle cups of Glögg.

Berlin

Whether you like history, culture, nightlife, or all of the above, Berlin is a great place to visit. The extensive transportation network makes it easy to get around this sprawling metropolis. In addition to popular destinations such as the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, the remaining stretches of the Berlin Wall and the Wall Victims Memorial, take in the city's contemporary skyscrapers, large zoo and many art and history museums. End the day, and perhaps start the next, in a nightclub or two.

Brussels

Unassuming Brussels is the capital of Belgium, Flanders and Europe. Medieval Grand-Place, is indeed grand, with many 17th-century buildings and daily flower markets. Reopened in 2006, the Atomium, Brussels' Eiffel Tower, provides great views, inside and out. Architecture fans should visit Musee Horta, home of Belgian master architect Victor Horta. St. Gery's clubs and bars are packed year-round. Seafood eateries abound in Ste. Catherine. Walk, rather than get snarled up in traffic, in the narrow streets.

Amsterdam

Yes, Amsterdam has its Red Light District and hash-selling coffee shops, but they are just a small part of this world-class city. Studded with canals and bridges, Amsterdam begs to be explored by foot or bike. Visit the Anne Frank House, view masterpieces at the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, shop the Waterlloplein flea market and let your nose lead you to the floating flower market. The locals are famously friendly, so strike up a chat (most speak English) over a beer at a brown café.

Rome Italy
"When in Rome, do as the Romans." That classic advice leads to a wealth of options: Should you follow Augustus and Caesar, whose Rome is filled with spectacular ancient structures? Or Michelangelo and Da Vinci, whose city invites artistic pilgrimage? Maybe you'll discover the Rome that enchants lovers and sightseers alike? Rome encompasses all this and more. Explore the seven hills, stop for an espresso by the Spanish Steps, sip a Chianti in a hidden piazza. The many charms of Rome await.
